University games success

Monash students Lachlan McPherson and Karsten Fosterling won gold in the coxless pairs at the recent Australian University Games in Ballarat.

The Games also saw Monash bring back gold in taekwondo, and the trophy is now on display at the Sport and Recreation Association.

Monash also won gold in the women's badminton, silver in men's soccer and men's tennis and came fourth in athletics, Aussie Rules, judo and women's volleyball.

Monash came third in the overall competition with 174 points, behind the University of Sydney (226 points) and the University of Melbourne (211 points).

About 3500 athletes from 50 Australian universities competed in 16 sports.
