Winning with woodworking

Faculty of Education senior lecturer Mr Bob Greaves was awarded the Royal Agricultural Society President's Medal for his 'Children working with wood' activity at the recent Royal Melbourne Show.

Mr Greaves has run the show program, which is sponsored by Monash and Mitre 10, for 15 years. This year, about 4000 children took part in the activity, which involved shaping and putting together their own wood creations.

"The aim of this activity is to encourage self-confidence and pride in creative ability through a play approach," Mr Greaves said.

The activity will be available at the Working with Wood show at the Exhibition Centre from 27 to 29 October. For more information, contact extn 44281.
