Former Monash student Ms Nerida Hayse has been awarded the David Hey Memorial Award by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia for being the top Professional Year student in Victoria for 1999/2000. Ms Hayse, who completed her Master of Professional Accounting at Clayton campus in 1996, was also the top student in Australia in the Advanced Tax module, and was in the Order of Merit for each of the other four modules in her Professional Year program. She now works for accounting firm KPMG.
The Monash Chamber Music Ensemble from the School of Music - Conservatorium recently raised $3600 for the National Council of the Blind in Malaysia. The money was raised at a concert that was part of a two-week tour of Singapore and Malaysia, held at the Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel in Malaysia. Monash University Malaysia pro vice-chancellor Professor Robert Bignall and executive director Mr Lee Weng Keng presented the cheque to National Council of the Blind executive director Mr Ivan Ho. Mr Ho said the money would be used for implementing programs relating to the education, rehabilitation, employment and general welfare of the blind.
Monash's Centre for Ambulance and Paramedic Studies is proving its expertise with two of its students taking out awards for their ambulance skills. Monash MICA student Ms Julie Scollary, together with Ms Sue Lucas, was successful in the inaugural Trans Tasman Cup, a paramedic competition between Australia and New Zealand. Monash Bachelor of Paramedic Studies student Ms Michelle Turner, partnered by Mr Steve Reilly, won the trauma and resuscitation sections of the annual Australian College of Ambulance Professionals in Queensland, making them the new national champions. |
