Focus on risk management education and research

The new Australasian Risk Management Unit will be launched next week in a bid to develop leading-edge research and education in risk management.

The Faculty of Business and Economics will launch the new unit on 21 February as a joint venture with the Association of Risk and Insurance Managers of Australasia.

The unit has been established to develop and deliver focused risk management education, from undergraduate to masters level and eventually PhD, and to foster and develop risk management research to an international standard.

With the unit's launch, Monash is expected to become an internationally recognised centre for the advancement of risk management education.

It will also establish links with industry through the provision of seminars and training courses.

The Auditor-General of Australia, Mr P J Barrett, will present the keynote address at the launch, which will also be attended by Monash chancellor Mr Jerry Ellis and vice-chancellor Professor David Robinson.

Organ recital

Monash organist Mr John O'Donnell will perform a solo recital at 8 pm on Friday 2 March at the Robert Blackwood Concert Hall at Clayton campus.

The program includes works by Liszt, Schumann, Pachelbel and Bach.

Mr O'Donnell, who also plays the harpsichord, regularly tours Europe, and was the first person ever to perform Bach's complete keyboard works in public. His recording of Bach's organ works was nominated Recording of the Year 2000 in the International Record Review.
