Theatre productionA student interpretation of the 1973 rock musical Pippin will be performed from 21 to 28 April in the Drama Theatre at the Clayton campus. The production focuses on Pippin, the oldest son of Charlmagne and heir to the Holy Roman Empire. New head for accident research centreLeading transport researcher Dr Ian Johnston has been appointed director of the Monash University Accident Research Centre. Dr Johnston has held leadership positions with the Marine Board of Victoria, VicRoads, and the Federal Office of Road Safety (now the Australian Transport Safety Bureau), and has published widely in the areas of road safety, road and traffic engineering, and research management. He holds a PhD in mechanical engineering and an arts degree from the University of Melbourne. Dr Johnston will remain as managing director of the public company ARRB Transport Research Ltd until he takes up his appointment on 28 May. Sir Robert Menzies LectureFormer Hong Kong governor Mr Christopher Patten will deliver the annual Sir Robert Menzies Lecture later this month. Organised by the Monash University Liberal Club, the lecture, which traditionally deals with issues of public importance, was first held in 1978 to honour the former Australian Prime Minister. Now European Union commissioner for External Affairs, Mr Patten was Hong Kong governor from 1992 to 1997 and chairman of Britain's Conservative Party from 1990 to 1992. The lecture will be held at 6.30 pm on 20 April in the Queen's Hall, Parliament House, Spring Street, Melbourne. Tickets cost $10 but are free for Monash students. To book, email mulc@ausi.com |
