Monash wins international law competition

A team of 12 Monash law students recently won the Willem C. Vis International Arbitration Competition in Vienna.

Coached by law lecturer Mr Judd Epstein, the team won the final against the University of Cologne (Germany) after winning the semi-final against Harvard University.

The team was also highly commended for its Memorandum for Respondent (which outlines the summary of arguments of a case) and law students Benn McGrady and Tamieka Spencer were also nominated as best speakers.

The students had to present an argument involving the sale and purchase of water sports goods, electronic commerce, and problems relating to contracts and damages using the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.

A Korean art connection

The Faculty of Art and Design have signed an agreement with a Korean university which allows Korean students to complete part of their studies at Monash.

Representatives from Monash and the Hoseo Computer Technical College, Seoul, Korea, recently signed a memorandum of understanding that applies to the Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication) and the Bachelor of Design (Multimedia Design).

The strategic partnership means Korean students can complete two years of study at Hoseo and a final two years at Monash before graduating with a Monash degree.

Students must attend a six-week winter or summer study school at the faculty that introduces them to their courses and Melbourne life and includes English language studies provided by Monash University.
