Innovation cluster for Clayton campus

A new centre for science and technology will provide opportunities for Monash researchers and students to collaborate with business and industry on the Clayton campus.

The concept of an innovation cluster is now being developed by Monash faculties in conjunction with Dr Tom Forgan, who founded the Australian Technology Park in Sydney.

Monash staff and students will be able to use their skills to realise the commercial potential of research through incubation to emerging industry.

Deputy vice-chancellor (Resources) Ms Alison Crook said academics were also keen to include school students in the new centre's activities.

"They are the future of science in Australia and we can fire their imaginations by showing them how science and technology can lead to new products and industries that open up employment opportunities," she said.

A concept launch for the International Centre for Science Technology and Emerging Industries will be held at the end of May.

Business plans to be presented to Monash Council in June include construction of the first of seven buildings in a development staged over the next decade.
