A close shave for leukemia research

Fiona Gutteridge after Fiona Gutteridge before

Several Faculty of Medicine staff and students raised $6000 for leukemia research when they went under the clippers last week.

Among them was Associate dean (Teaching) and physiology lecturer Associate Professor Tony Luff, who had his head shaved for the fundraising event organised by Monash biomedical students.

Students gave freely to see their lecturers and classmates lose their locks for the event, which formed a part of the Leukemia Foundation's 'World's greatest shave for a cure' campaign.

The foundation aims to generate more than $5 million to help fund continuing work in promoting research and providing support for leukemia patients across Australia.

Before and after: People paid $10 a lock for the privilege of cutting the hair of medical and surgery student Fiona Gutteridge.
