Cadbury sponsors chocolate vending machine contest

Chocoholics in the Department of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering (ECSE) were given the perfect task when they teamed up with Cadbury recently.

First and second-year electrical engineering design students were asked to build a chocolate vending machine using specified parts and materials.

ECSE deputy head Associate Professor Andy Russell said students were supplied with cardboard and plastic sheeting as well as parts and electrical components to design and build the machine.

"It was an attempt to get our early-year students to think about how different areas of knowledge can be applied to one project," he said.

Cadbury electrical engineer Mr Robert Jorgensen judged the competition, declaring students Chong Chun Fai, Andrew Lawton and Fok Ka Ki the winners.

The vending machines were judged on presentation and innovation - and if they worked.

Cadbury also supplied the chocolate bars used in the machines and the boxes of chocolates awarded to the winners.
