Radiography training centre launched

A partnership between Monash and film and imaging company Agfa has led to the launch of a new international training centre for computed radiography.

A group of radiography professionals saw a hands-on demonstration of the new facility following its launch by vice-chancellor Professor David Robinson.

Agfa provided the equipment which includes the new Agfa ADC Solo Computed Radiography System, Impax workstations and an image digitiser.

Department of Radiography and Medical Imaging head Dr Marilyn Baird said Monash students would be trained using the latest industry equipment, giving them an advantage in the employment market.

"With our assistance, Agfa will use the centre to do in-house training for their corporate and hospital-based clients," she said.

Impax Solutions sales and marketing manager, ASEAN and Oceania, Mr Ross Wright said the initiative grew out of Monash's innovative Bachelor of Radiography and Medical Imaging degree, the only four-year course of its type in Australia.

"We saw it as a great opportunity to get involved with Monash at ground level. The innovative syllabus and focus on new technologies dovetailed nicely with our own direction as a company."

Agfa has also provided several $4000 scholarships to radiography students and as well as vacation employment opportunities to Monash students.
