Diabetes and asthma trials

Volunteers are sought for a pair of clinical trials to help determine whether herbal medicines can help diabetics and children with asthma.

Monash's Centre for Complementary Medicine director Dr Marc Cohen said the first trial would involve testing a 3500-year-old Indian herbal medicine to see if it could help control blood sugar levels in diabetics and people with poor glucose metabolism.

Researchers are seeking 100 diabetics who are on oral medication and whose blood sugar levels are not well controlled.

Dr Cohen said the second trial would involve testing the effectiveness of the herbal medicine Oralmat Drops in easing the symptoms of asthma in children.

He is looking for 100 children aged between 8 and 16 years who can attend Monash Medical Centre for the trial.

People interested in taking part in either trial should leave their details on 9540 0250.
