Monash rowers honoured

Lachlan McPherson and Karsten Forsterling

Monash rowers honoured Monash rowing champions Mr Lachlan McPherson and Mr Karsten Forsterling have been honoured with International Athlete of the Year awards from Australian University Sport (AUS).

AUS president and Peninsula/Caulfield campus director Mr John White presented the awards to the pair and congratulated them on their silver medal success at the World University Rowing Championships last year.

"It is an amazing feat to win the medal competing against some of the world's best rowers at such an elite level of competition," he said.

"Karsten and Lachlan have not only reached a remarkable sporting pinnacle, they have also successfully combined their sporting success with tertiary study."

Karsten is now heading off to New Zealand over the semester break to compete in the University Trans-Tasman Challenge Regatta.

He has been selected as an Australian representative in the eight, to race over two Olympic-distance races of 2000 metres and one of 5000 metres.
