Academic website wins national award

Ms Katalin Kish and Mr Abe Herzberg

A national award has recognised the contribution of Monash staff to a website about corporate law.

The site, created by Ms Katalin Kish, was based on the textbook Understanding Company Law, co-authored by Mr Abe Herzberg, acting head of the department of Business Law and Taxation at Monash.

The site won the Best Tertiary Website category in The Australian 2001 Awards for Excellence in Education Publishing.

Ms Kish, who is flexible teaching consultant and web designer for the Faculty of Business and Economics, said the online version of Understanding Company Law provided real benefits to students and staff at Monash and universities across Australia.

"Unlike many sites which are created as novelties, the 'Understanding Company Law' site has a lot of content, many links and includes additional information supporting the text," she said.

Mr Herzberg, who accepted the award on behalf of the group at a recent ceremony, said the site uses navigational tools to organise publicly available corporate law internet resources on a topic-by-topic basis.

"The site contains links to legislation, cases, explanatory memoranda, articles, law reform reports and other resources," he said.

"These resources are annotated and placed into context with references to the textbook, a combination that forms an integrated multimedia corporate law teaching package."
