Monash Memo - 11 July 2001Back to this edition's story list Dean welcomes Boston studentsThe Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics, Professor Gill Palmer hosted a recent function at Monash's city office to welcome five students from Boston College to Melbourne. Each year Monash, in conjunction with other Melbourne-based organisations, sponsors the visit of five senior Boston College business students to Melbourne for six weeks commencing mid-June. Ms Karen Moore, Manager, Office of International Programs for the faculty, said the main objectives of this exchange are to bridge the gap between the academic and business worlds and to strengthen relations between Boston and Melbourne. "For over five years, Monash University has been involved in a Business Internship program that has been established between the sister cities of Boston and Melbourne," she said. "This year the students are undertaking work for the City of Melbourne, the Melbourne Convention and Marketing Bureau, the Melbourne Museum and Monash University." Ms Moore said the program helps the visiting students experience a foreign business environment where they will profit from new cultural and professional perspectives. At the function the students were able to discuss their experiences with the Monash students who went to Boston in January. |
