Monash Memo - 11 July 2001Back to this edition's story list Fine Arts gets a faceliftThe signature 1930s building at the Caulfield campus on the corner of Dandenong Road and Sir John Monash Drive will undergo substantial redevelopment starting later this year. The building, which currently houses the campus's Fine Arts facilities, will be revamped by award-winning Melbourne architects, Lyons. Marketing and Communications manager for the Faculty of Art and Design, Ms Kirsten Freeman said the work would provide a wide range of new facilities for students and staff in the faculty. "The redevelopment will provide purpose-built studios for painting, drawing, printmaking and photomedia, as well as a new office centre," she said "Highlights of the design include a spectacular new entry and a light filled atrium that will join buildings D and E. The new look building will also include a lift." Ms Freeman said the redevelopment would ensure Monash has some of the best fine arts facilities in the country. Work on the building is scheduled to be complete by first semester in 2003. |
