Monash Memo - 18 July 2001Back to this edition's story list BriefsSustainable Energy Day 2001 The Department of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering hosted Sustainable Energy Day 2001 at the Clayton campus last week. Organised by Dr Ahmad Zahedi, senior lecturer in the faculty, the event provided a forum to discuss the challenges of moving the world's energy systems towards sustainability. Participants included representatives from government and utilities, universities and research institutes, technology providers, consultants and energy industry experts. Eleven speakers gave presentations during the day, showcasing outstanding projects and initiatives and providing information on sustainable policy developments. Rhodes scholarships Applications are invited for the 2002 Rhodes Scholarships to Oxford University. Scholarship recipients will be given a monthly allowance of £720 while studying at Oxford. The Rhodes trust pays all fees directly to Oxford and will assist with travelling expenses. To be eligible, applicants must be Australian citizens aged between 18 and 24 who will not turn 25 before 1 October 2001. Applicants are required to have achieved a bachelors degree by October 2002, preferably with honours.
