Monash Memo - 1 August 2001Back to this edition's story list New head for Public Affairs
Monash has appointed a new executive director, Marketing and Public Affairs, to strengthen its push into global education and research. Ms Meredith Jackson, who is currently head of marketing and communications at the University of Queensland, had an extensive career in the media and in government before entering the higher education sector. Vice-Chancellor Professor David Robinson said Ms Jackson's appointment reflected the university's determination to set the pace in quality education and research. "I am delighted Meredith has agreed to take on the challenge of working to consolidate the Monash name, advance its reputation in the public domain and to add value to the its strategic partnerships," Professor Robinson said. Deputy vice-chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Peter Darvall said Ms Jackson would bring coherence to the Monash public profile, identify new markets and partnerships and draw attention to the university's exciting research development program. Ms Jackson, who will take up her appointment on 15 October, spent 16 years as a journalist in Australia, London and New York working for metropolitan television, print, radio and wire services before moving into marketing. She has since held senior marketing roles in media and higher education and spent three years as Executive Director in Queensland Treasury. A former South Australian, Ms Jackson said she was looking forward to `Monash's energy, its brilliant research program and its bright future, and of course to Melbourne's food, fashion and football.' |
