Back to this edition's story list

Parting note

Associate professor and director of music performance in the School of Music Andre de Quadros is leaving Monash to take up a position at one of America's most prestigious music schools.

The conductor and music educator, who is also artistic director of the Melbourne International Festival of Choirs, has been with Monash since 1992 and was founder of the university's music performance program.

In September 2001, he will leave Australia to become professor of music and chair of the Department of Music Education at Boston University's School for the Arts.

During his time at Monash, Associate Professor de Quadros has been involved in many successful concerts with university ensembles, including the New Monash Orchestra and Viva Voce choir, both at Monash and on international tours.

He has also been successful in promoting Monash as a major cultural institution and taken part in many important world and Australian premiere performances.

Other career highlights include producing CD recordings and radio broadcasts, winning first prize in the Australian National Choral Championships, and receiving a special commendation in the Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Distinguished Teaching.
