Monash Memo - 12 September 2001Back to this edition's story list Planning seminar sets directions for the futureA one-day planning seminar recently convened by the deputy vice-chancellor (Academic and Planning), Professor Alan Lindsay, focused on developing a coherent university strategy for electronically supported teaching and learning. The seminar, which took place on 23 August, contained a mix of presentation sessions, technology demonstrations and focused discussion groups. It provided a unique opportunity for key academic, technical and support staff to review the university's progress in flexible delivery approaches. The 30 participants explored emerging strategies, tools and systems, and identified key issues and priorities for future development. Professor Lindsay said the seminar had made a significant contribution to developing a better understanding of the university's capacity and needs. The sharing of knowledge and experiences led to a much clearer view of how to incorporate technology tools effectively into course delivery, both on and off campus, he said. Participants judged the seminar to be a great success in setting directions for future faculty and support unit planning and for informing the work of the Steering Committee on Electronically Supported Teaching and Learning, recently established by Professor Lindsay. |
