Monash Memo - 12 September 2001Back to this edition's story list Quality in the spotlightA university-wide review of quality at Monash aims to take stock of the current processes in place for assuring quality outcomes for all university activities. The self-review will be conducted over the next three months by a panel chaired by the dean of Law, Professor Stephen Parker. During the review, the panel will visit all campuses to seek input from a wide range of areas and conduct open forums to discuss quality issues. Comments and submissions from individuals will be invited to ensure that any interested Monash staff and students have the opportunity to be involved. "The self-review of quality is for our own benefit and will be conducted every five years," Professor Parker said. "The report will also assist the university to prepare for an external audit by the new Australian Universities Quality Agency." According to the director of the Monash Centre for Higher Education Quality (CHEQ), Professor Graham Webb, Monash already has substantial quality assurance processes in place but cannot afford to rest on its laurels. "Monash did very well in the quality rounds of the early 1990s, which greatly enhanced the university's reputation at that time," he said. "There is now widespread agreement within the university that in order to realise the vision in Leading the Way, quality is a central concern. "The renewed focus on quality will help us to reach our goals
and lead to improvements that benefit all staff and students at
Monash." |
