Launch of literary achievement

One of the largest projects ever undertaken in the Arts faculty was launched at the State Library of Victoria this week.

Representing a decade of collaborative planning and research, The Bibliography of Australian Literature: A-E lists bibliographical and selected biographical information on 10,000 titles and approximately 3000 Australian authors.

The volume is the first instalment in the ambitious Bibliography of Australian Literature (BAL), which aims to record details of all separately published creative literature by Australian writers over the last two centuries.

Present at the launch were the bibliography's general editors Mr John Arnold, head of the National Centre for Australian Studies at Monash, and Professor John Hay, vice-chancellor of the University of Queensland and a former deputy vice-chancellor at Monash.

Faculty of Arts members who compiled the work Ms Sally Batten, Mr Terence O'Neill, Mr Christopher Wood and former faculty member Ms Kerry Kilner were also on hand for the occasion.
