Monash web redevelopment under way

The top levels of Monash's current website will undergo redevelopment in a new collaborative project initiated by Information Technology Services and Marketing and Public Affairs.

The project forms the most recent part of an ongoing and systematic review of the Monash web presence and follows 18 months of web usage, implementation of web templates and user feedback on the current site.

An extensive process of user testing and consultation with academic and business units across all of the university's campuses, centres and locations will be implemented as part of the project.

In addition, a reference group will be established with representation from all academic and business units interested in participating in the project. Contributions of time and effort will be expected of people who take part in the reference group.

Outcomes from the reference group will be presented to the Monash web redevelopment steering committee co-chaired by the executive director of Information Technology Services (ITS), Mr Alan McMeekin, and the incoming executive director of Marketing and Public Affairs, Ms Meredith Jackson.

The reference group will also include representatives from ITS, Public Affairs, faculties and departments.

Mr McMeekin said the collaboration "with its extensive consultation and user-centred focus will ensure the redevelopment produces an attractive and high-quality website that becomes the preferred first port of call when people want information about Monash".

Acting executive director of Marketing and Public Affairs Mr Roger Newham said that by incorporating input from all university staff, and the expertise of those directly involved in the collaboration, the project would produce an outcome which reflected the university's breadth and internationalisation, as well as its brand.

It is planned that the new Monash site will be online by the beginning of Orientation 2002. A project website has been created at www.its.monash.edu.au/web/projects/ to provide regular updates.

Feedback is welcome from members of the Monash community and can be emailed to webproject@monash.edu.au
