The science of safety at Monash

The Faculty of Science 2001 Safety Award for Workgroups has been awarded to a laboratory team in the Psychology
department.

Under the guidance and direction of Associate Professor Steve Robinson, the group worked as a cohesive team displaying an
impressive awareness of occupational health and safety issues.

Other members of the winning team included Ms Glenda Bishop and Ms Malia Dixon, who are students in the laboratory, and
Ms Elena Hartley, who provides technical expertise to the group. The team demonstrated excellent work practices, essential
when dealing with highly toxic substances and bio-hazardous materials.

They also responded rapidly to any safety issues raised within the laboratory or which arose externally and achieved a high level
of compliance with relevant university occupational health and safety policies, government legislation and codes of practice.

The award included lunch in the Private Dining Room of the Monash Club, who co-sponsored the lunch with the Faculty of  Science.
