Oh brother! Peninsula rocks

Relay for Life will benefit from funds raised at a series of successful MONSU Peninsula campus events.

The events attracted hundreds of students and a celebrity line-up, including members of the Big Brother household.

MONSU events manager Mr Ravi Chand said the success of the events was largely due to the promotional activities of the Peninsula Activities Committee, which distributed 10,000 passes per event across six campuses and organised colour posters and a comprehensive events booklet.

The first event, a 'Laugh it up' comedy night held in July, sold out within two days. Performers included Dave Grant (Melbourne Comedy Festival), Tripod (Rove Live) and Dave Callinan (Triple J).

The second event, 'Sex it up', held in August, was part of the infamous Sexual Awareness Week. The week was topped off with a party at the Seahorse Tavern, which included a fashion parade by the students, with special guests Andy and Gordon from Big Brother hosting the parade.

The last three events, all comedy nights, featured performances by Hung Le (Wog Story), Dave Callan and Peter Helliar (Rove Live).

"Not only did the events team organise great shows, they also provided the Peninsula student publication with some fantastic content such as interviews and rare insight from all performers," Mr Chand said.

All profits raised from the events will be donated to this year's Relay For Life event, to be held at Ballam Park in Frankston on 17 and 18 November.
