Defending the trophy in Mumbai

Four students from the Faculty of Business and Economics will arrive in India next month to defend last year's Mumbai trophy.

For the past three years, the National Centre for South Asian Studies and the Faculty of Business and Economics have sent a group of undergraduate economics students to Mumbai to take part in the Annual Economics Convention of the Hyderabad Sind National Colleges of Mumbai University.

Last year, the Monash team won the Mumbai trophy for its research paper and PowerPoint presentation on 'India and the WTO'.

The content of the paper, the presentation and the students' handling of questions is judged by eminent public figures in Mumbai, including judges, municipal heads, economists and mathematicians.

This year's team, which has been organised by centre director Associate Professor Marika Vicziany (pictured centre), will defend the title with a research paper on 'IT solutions to mass poverty in India'.

While in Mumbai, the students will stay with college families with the support of Monash Abroad, learning about daily life in one of Asia's most dynamic and complex cities.
