Monash Memo - articles - 21 November 2001Steering group to boost tiesStrong European ties built up by Monash over 40 years, and now boosted by centres in London and Prato, are set to be further enhanced with the establishment of a new Europe Steering Group. The steering group, which replaces former groups dealing separately with London and Prato, will enable the university to extend its involvement with leading European universities, research bodies and other organisations. To ensure that Monash's involvement with Europe develops in line with the university's vision, as set out in Leading the Way and The Global Development Framework, the group will give priority to drafting a Europe Development Plan. It also aims to build up a database of existing relationships and develop the university's current strengths in the region. The group, which held its inaugural meeting on 31 October, is chaired by Professor Stephen Parker and co-chaired by Professor Homer Le Grand. Also attending was Professor Merran Evans as director London designate, a role she will take up from the beginning of next year. Other members of the group include the directors of the Monash centres in London and Prato; external member Mr Tom Hazell (AO); deputy vice-chancellor (Resources) Ms Alison Crook; dean of Engineering Professor Mike Brisk; deputy dean of Business and Economics Professor Max King; Monash International CEO Mr Tony Pollock; executive director, Marketing and Public Affairs, Ms Meredith Jackson; principal adviser, International and Government Affairs, Mr Ian Porter; and project manager for the Office of International Affairs Ms Helen Fletcher-Kennedy.
