Monash Memo - articles - 28 November 2001IT's web-based FLITE Centre takes offA new website, launched earlier this month by the Faculty of Information Technology, will provide support to academic staff and offer students a virtual learning community. The FLITE Centre website contains information about current projects, upcoming international and local conferences, seminars and workshops, details on groups involved in the teaching and learning function of the university, newsletters and information on the FLITE Centre Library. The main aim of the centre is to provide support for the academic staff and students of the faculty in the teaching and learning aspects of their work. It also aims to assist in creating a collaborative learning community for the development of innovative teaching practices and the use of technology to support student-centred flexible learning. A feature of the site is the Newstand, which contains information about the current week's events, such as workshops, seminars and forums. The site is to be developed further, and plans include the introduction of WebBoard, a resource list for students, templates for staff use, case studies and other materials in the teaching and learning area. Corresponding with the release of the centre's first online newsletter, the website went online on 7 November at www-flite. infotech.monash.edu.au |
