Monash Memo - articles- 12 December 2001New pathway into engineering degreesMonash College has launched a new engineering diplomathat provides students with a guaranteed pathway into Monashdegrees. The new Monash College Diploma of Engineering Studies, to beoffered from next year, has been developed specifically to preparestudents for entry into selected Monash engineering degrees. MonashInternational's Mr Clive Vernon said the new diploma offered studentsthe same opportunities as courses in business, economics, commerce andinformation technology already offered by the college. "The newengineering diploma gives students the chance to take up a place in thesecond year of a Monash engineering degree," he said. Two levels ofthe diploma are offered to students, depending on their academic record.Part 1 is equivalent to Year 12 standard, while part 2 is at first-yearuniversity level. "Students who complete part 1 of the diploma can godirectly into the first year of the Bachelor of Engineering and selectedscience degrees," Mr Vernon said. "And students who successfullycomplete part 2 have a direct pathway into the second year of a Monashengineering degree, provided they meet the required grade average." Monash College is represented at a number of locations both inAustralia and overseas, including in Singapore, China andIndonesia. Mr Vernon said plans were under way for the development ofother Monash College locations including in southern Africa andThailand. |
