Dr JohnPigot

Staff of the Faculty of Art and Design were saddened tolearn of the sudden death of former colleague and respected art academicDr John Pigot on 9 May after a brief illness.

An art historian withteaching and research interests in 19th and 20th-century European andAustralian art, Dr Pigot taught in the Theory of Art and Designdepartment at Monash from 1996 to 1999. He also held lecturing andresearch appointments at the University of Melbourne, SwinburneUniversity and RMIT University where he was a research fellow this year.

Outside academic life, Dr Pigot was a keen motorcyclist who heldleadership roles in motorcycle groups and was involved in motorcyclists'fundraising activities for charity. He curated a notable exhibition,Art, Identity and the Motorcycle, at the Monash City Gallery ofArt in 1999.

Colleagues in the Art and Design faculty extend theirheartfelt sympathy to Dr Pigot's wife and children.

As part of Health &Safety Week (17-21 June 2002), OHSE is offering to visit individualworkstations to review PC and workflow arrangements and suggest methodsfor reducing the risk of PC aches and pains.

Strategic innovation fundpresentations

HEPCIT will present a special forum in support ofthe university's commitment to teaching innovation and flexibilitythrough Strategic Innovations Fund (SIF) grants.

The forum will beof interest to staff who are considering applying for SIF funding in2002 and those looking for innovative ways of teaching withtechnology.

The forum will be held on Thursday 20 June at 11.30 am atCentral 1 lecture theatre, Clayton campus, with a video link toGippsland campus (room 2W263).

Paymentsummaries

Payment summaries (formerly known as groupcertificates) will be mailed to staff at their home addresses by midJuly 2002. If you have changed address, please ensure you have advisedHR Services of the change.

If you have not updated your addresselectronically by close of business on Friday, 21 June 2002, anadministration charge of $22 including GST will be incurred for areplacement payment summary to be prepared.
