Workshops promote web-savvy staff

The 2002 MonashWeb Workshop series for staff will continue through to the end ofAugust, with two informative presentations by Dr Lisa Wise ofInfrastructure Service in Monash ITS.

The presentations will coverissues of communication and terminology used between web developers andclients and the evolution and devolution of the webmaster roleitself.

Usability analyst Ms Dey Alexander, of the Monash WebRedevelopment Program, said the workshops were aimed at providinginformation and support for members of the Monash community who designand/or maintain websites.

Academic staff opportunities in Germany

Monash academic staff will havethe chance to teach in Germany through a small number of guestlectureships/professorships made available by the German AcademicExchange Service (DAAD) in conjunction with specific Germanuniversities.

The positions are designed to enhance teaching in anumber of languages other than German at universities, although inprinciple the positions are open to staff from any discipline area, andinvolve a teaching load of six hours per week for 14 weeks.

InterestedMonash staff can contact Professor Uschi Felix(uschi.felix@arts.monash.edu.au) after 25 August to express interest andobtain further details on how to go about preparing an application.

We're not in Kansas anymore

A newshow by the Monash University Musical Company (MUMCo) is set to giveDorothy Gale a make-over in the vibrant production of the 1970s rockmusical The Wiz.

The Wiz is radically different instyle to the traditional L. Frank Baum original American fairytaleThe Wizard of Oz, with 20 rock songs including music made famousby Diana Ross and Michael Jackson in an earlier film version.

MUMCopresident Ms Liz Hughes said The Wiz gave the large cast of 22talented and hardworking performers from Monash an opportunity toshine.

"The Wiz is an exciting and dynamic show, and the castbrings the stage alive with vibrant music, dynamic choreography andwickedly humorous characters," she said.

"The cast have been workinghard over the past few months to bring you an outstanding production ofthis funky rock musical."

The Wiz is showing from 22 to 30August at the Monash Secondary College Theatrette.
