Christmas close-down 1998/99

The university will close from the end of business on Wednesday, 23 December 1998 and re-open in the New Year on Tuesday, 5 January 1999.

Academic and general staff

As staff will be aware, the university grants academic and general staff five non-cumulative university holidays in return for working on Labour Day, the Queen's Birthday holiday and Melbourne Cup Day during the year. The public holidays during the Christmas/New Year period for 1998/99 fall on:

Three of the five non-cumulative university holidays fall between Christmas and New Year's Day and thus will be granted on Tuesday 29, Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31 December 1998. The shortfall of the two remaining university holidays will be granted on Thursday, 24 December 1998 and Monday, 4 January 1999.

Trades and services general staff

Trades and services general staff are only granted four non-cumulative university holidays, in accordance with the Monash University Enterprise Agreement 1995. In line with the 1997/98 closedown arrangements, staff may be required to take an accrued RDO, a day's annual leave or leave without pay at the end of the closedown period (ie on Monday, 4 January 1998) to ensure that they resume duty on the same days as their supervisors, where those supervisors are not trades and services general staff.
