Glass and ceramics students in Monash's Department of Applied Arts have been given an illuminating experience with the opening of their newly refurbished studios.
The glass and ceramics studios, located on the sixth and seventh floor of B Block, Caulfield campus, have been redeveloped to create an improved work space for staff and students and to accentuate students' work on display in the studio galleries.
Head of the Department of Applied Arts Associate Professor Bernard Hoffert said a feature of the refurbished area was the newly installed glass walls, which replaced the existing solid brick walls and capitalised on natural light.
Deputy vice-chancellor (International and Public Affairs) Professor John Maloney opened the new studios at a launch last week, attended by Art & Design dean Professor John Redmond, as well as staff, students and industry representatives.

The Alexander Theatre will this month host the Melbourne premiere of David Williamson's latest production Third World Blues.
The play, a remake of an earlier Williamson production entitled Jugglers Three, follows its sell-out Sydney season, where it was widely praised by both audiences and critics.
Third World Blues follows the story of a Vietnam soldier, Graham, who returns home to confront not only major changes in Australia but also his own marriage problems. The events and dramas that unfold make the war seem tame by comparison.
The play will run from 18 to 22 August. For information and bookings, contact the Monash Box Office on extn 51111.
