An offer has been made to all tenured academic staff members in the Arts faculty proposing voluntary departure through a Voluntary Early Retirement scheme under the provisions of the Universities and Post Compulsory Academics Conditions Award 1995.
The formula used is based on formula for academic redundancy included in the recently certified enterprise bargaining agreement. Other options to assist the faculty - which do not necessarily mean leaving the faculty in the short term - are also being offered. These measures are necessary in order to assist the faculty with its budgetary difficulties.
A separate Voluntary Early Retirement scheme is proposed for general staff in the near future.
The university will close from the end of business on Wednesday, 23 December 1998 and re-open in the New Year on Tuesday, 5 January 1999.
