Female staff benefit from HECE award

Latest figures announced by deputy vice-chancellor Professor Alan Lindsay show that in the 12-month period from March last year, 369 females from a total number of 540 staff were appointed to ongoing positions.

As existing contracts came up for renewal, many of these at the end of December, university departments reviewed their staffing needs under the conditions laid down by the Higher Education Contract of Employment (HECE) Award 1998.

This resulted in a 10.7 per cent increase in the total number of university staff who are now on ongoing appointments. That figure has grown to 59.3 per cent.

Professor Lindsay said that the university appreciated the involvement of many staff in the recruitment and selection processes during the year. "That 49.5 per cent of female staff are now on ongoing appointments is a great improvement," he said.
