Peter
GarwoodPeter Garwood has lived through a good deal of organisational change during his long career with Monash, and likewise the university has seen Peter develop substantially in his role.
Peter is a technician in the Art and Design faculty at Caulfield campus. His specialty for most of his 23 years at Monash has been printing. However, his move several years ago to the Department of Graphic Design sparked his interest in Macintosh computers, and he hasn't looked back.
A career highlight for Peter came in 1997, when his department head Ms Jenny Allen nominated him for the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Exceptional Service by General Staff. "It came as a surprise when Jenny nominated me," recalled Peter. "And an even bigger surprise when I won it."
Recently, Peter has moved, along with part of his faculty, to the new industrially designed building G, with its imposing gun-metal grey, deep blue and vivid yellow, where his latest challenge is to upgrade the faculty from a two to a six-lab environment.
Throughout these changes, Peter has enjoyed the enduring aspects of Monash culture such as the friendliness of staff and a pleasant working environment. "I enjoy the people I work with and what I do," he said. "And I'm looking forward to the 25-year service medal in a couple of years' time!"
