Shane Blogg

Shane Blogg is the third member of the successful team that runs the Office of Indigenous Employment and Career Development at Monash.

Previously employed in the Indigenous Initiatives Branch of DEETYA, Shane is currently case manager for the placement of indigenous trainees within the university.

Shane has faced a steep learning curve during his first year with the university. But with a swag of successes to the office's name, including having been nominated as the most successful indigenous employment program in Victorian tertiary education, he has had an excellent learning environment.

With the guidance of mentor consultant Michael Coll, Shane is developing a style of client service he describes as "inclusive and strategic".

"To ensure the success of each indigenous trainee's placement, I mentor the trainee," he said. "I also help clarify roles and responsibilities for both the trainee and their supervisor to assist them in maintaining an effective working relationship."

To better grasp employment issues affecting indigenous staff, Shane is also undertaking monthly rotations to Employee Relations and Consultancy Branch as part of Personnel Services Division's job rotation strategy.

While these opportunities are enabling Shane to grow into his role, his career development is also continuing off the job, with his participation this year in the Learning About Managing program, a joint Monash-Melbourne training initiative.

In his spare time, Shane is trying to settle in to his new home in Bayswater with his family, including new baby Lachlan.
