As manager of Monash International at Gippsland, Jenny Ramage has become well known not only on campus but also throughout the wider community.
Jenny began her career with Monash in 1989 at Clayton campus, where she worked part-time with the Centre for International Students. Today, she is responsible for admissions and support for 500 international students at the Gippsland campus.
One of the highlights of her work is organising the annual cultural exchange program, which gives international students an opportunity to work with students at local primary and secondary schools for six weeks.
"The program has been a great success," Jenny said. "It has brought together the primary, secondary and tertiary education sectors and has improved both international and Australian students' understanding of other cultures."
Last year was particularly busy for Jenny, as she was not only studying for a BA in gender studies and management, she also undertook the Gippsland Community Leadership Program, which she says improved her leadership skills.
Jenny is also involved in an Anglican community program that aims to help people develop confidence. The program, which involves teaching participants puppeteering and clowning skills, initially focused on young people, but Jenny has found older people to be equally enthusiastic.
To share some of the skills she has cultivated outside the university, Jenny is interested in starting up a Gippsland campus network with like-minded staff. There might even be the odd confidence-boosting clown workshop!
