Dr Henry Burger, an honorary professor at Monash University and director of the Prince Henry's Institute of Medical Research at Monash Medical Centre, has been named the International Endocrine Society's 1999 Distinguished Physician in Endocrinology.
The award is presented annually by the society in recognition of outstanding contributions to the practice of clinical endocrinology.
Announcing the award, the society said Dr Burger had made significant contributions to basic and clinical research, teaching and clinical practice in endocrinology, with particular emphasis in the field of reproductive medicine.
The Endocrine Society is based in Bethesda, Maryland, US. Its membership is made up of over 9500 scientists and physicians in more than 80 countries.
