There
is little at Monash that Andrew Evans hasn't turned his hand to at some stage.
As an Arts student here in the late eighties, he majored in politics and geography while working at various stages as a part-time cleaner, a cook for Wholefoods, and a technician in the Physiology department.
In the 1990s, he undertook his masters in international relations at Monash, then set off on a backpacking trip around the world.
Back at Monash in 1994, he began his PhD in politics, but while that's still on the backburner, other aspects of Andrew's involvement in Monash have been full steam ahead.
After a stint with the Postgraduate Students Association, he went to work with the Research Grants and Ethics Branch, where he came to appreciate "the immense talent of our academics", despite relatively little funding being available for research.
Last year Andrew joined the Faculty of Medicine, where he administers the undergraduate program. "I enjoy the challenges offered by a dynamic faculty undergoing exciting change, especially the internationalisation of its activities and the course redesign," he said.
Even when he goes home at the end of the day, Andrew doesn't leave Monash. He is deputy college head of Richardson Hall, where he lives with his wife Trish, who is also doing her PhD at Monash.
