Jill McLachlan has become a jack of all trades and master of many since her appointment as campus administrator at the fledgling Berwick campus four years ago.
In
that time, she has learned all facets of the business to help Monash Berwick
develop from a small operation annexed to Berwick TAFE college to a thriving
campus servicing Melbourne's largest growth corridor.
Yet Jill's association with the university extends back much further. She studied at Monash for her economics degree, before an unsatisfying stint working for a bank prompted her return to the university in 1974.
During her three years in administration in the Science faculty, Jill discovered she enjoyed working with students, which she capitalised on in her subsequent roles as student adviser and student coordinator in Arts.
Her next appointment working on special projects for the Vice-Chancellor's Group further broadened Jill's experience. The projects included editing a book, organising a conference in Taiwan and establishing an enhancement program for gifted Year 12 students.
It was this role which led Jill to her current position at Berwick, which she says covers everything from campus planning and development to cultivating relationships with the local school and business communities.
When she is not working or studying for her Master of Education (Leadership Policy and Change), Jill relaxes at home in Red Hill with her three daughters and a veritable menagerie of pets.
