It
was growing up in the Gippsland region where she witnessed such changes as reform
of the power industry and increasing urbanisation that inspired Carol Jeff's
interest in local economics, especially in the area of natural resources and
forestry.
An assistant lecturer in economics at Gippsland since 1992, Carol's work has ranged from assisting in the running of the school and taking on various committee roles to acting as subject adviser. She believes that the small size of the campus offers staff unique opportunities to multiskill, and is currently involved in a research project on tele-teaching through a faculty innovations grant.
Carol has taught students locally at Gippsland and Berwick, and as far afield as Singapore and Hong Kong through distance education. Her special interest in resource economics has helped her in the development of a new subject, 'Natural resources and the environment'.
"Resource economics is a field ripe for cross-disciplinary collaboration," Carol said. "I am currently working with five other academics on the economics of water resources in the Gippsland region."
A graduate of the Women in Leadership program, Carol says she is looking forward to the future and promotion. "I am focusing on research and creating links with the local community and industry, which will ultimately benefit the region and feed into my PhD," she explained.
Still living locally, Carol resides in Hazelwood North on three acres with her husband Stuart, daughter Morgan, and a retired racehorse called Roy.
