Elections to Academic Board and Council

Nominations are being sought for the following vacancies on Monash University Council and Academic Board:

  • four undergraduate student members of Academic Board;
  • one undergraduate student member of Council;
  • two postgraduate student members of Academic Board;
  • one postgraduate student member of Council.

Please refer to notices on official and faculty notice boards for eligibility of both voters and candidates and the global email issued on 24 August.

In nominating and voting, Monash students are asked to consider the university's commitment to equal representation of women and men on committees.

If more than one nomination is received for any of these positions, a ballot will be held between 4 and 7 October.

Nominations close at 12 noon on Monday 13 September.

New gym membership scheme

The Sports and Recreation Association at Clayton has just released a public membership scheme.

Gym Plus One membership, which includes aerobics, aquatics and spin, costs $45 per month.

Gym Plus All membership, which entitles the member to use all gym facilities and attend any classes, costs $65 per month.

Indigenous film festival

Renowned Aboriginal filmmaker Mr Richard Franklin will open the inaugural indigenous film festival, Spirit of Our Story, at the Gippsland campus on Wednesday 1 September at 7.30 pm.

The film festival, being presented by the Centre for Australian Indigenous Studies at Gippsland, will play over four days in the student union lounge. Admission is free.

Some of the films to show in the program include Deadheart, Bush Mechanics, Radiance and No Way to Forget.

Japan culture tour

The Japanese Study Centre is planning a tour of Japan featuring Japanese culture, art and religion.

The tour will begin in Tokyo, and take in Kyoto, Kanazawa, Nara, Kumano, Ise and Oaska.

In Kanazawa, there will be a week's homestay with Japanese families, as well as a Japanese language and culture program.

The cost of the tour is $5600 ($5200 for students) and university accreditation is available.

Expressions of interest or bookings should be made by 30 September to the Japanese Studies Centre on extn 52260.
