Elizabeth Lanyon

Elizabeth Lanyon left industry in 1992 to work part-time as an assistant lecturer in the Monash Faculty of Law, and has never regretted the change.

Before coming to Monash, Elizabeth was a partner in a law firm, specialising in banking and finance law.

She said she had found it extremely difficult to balance family commitments with the onerous career demands of working in a busy law firm.

"I really appreciate the intellectual challenge, student contact and flexibility offered at Monash," she said.

Elizabeth is particularly enthusiastic about changes to the graduate area, which will see an enhanced focus on joint studies, industry issues, higher research degrees, international students and cross-disciplinary research.

In keeping with her industry expertise, her major area of research is consumer law and, in partnership with Professor Tony Duggan, she has just published a book Consumer Credit Law, which she plans to submit for her PhD.

Her interest in this area extends to her contributions to the Law Council of Australia Banking, Finance and Consumer Credit Law Committee, her editorship of Butterworth's Consumer Credit Bulletin and her election this year as the staff representative on the SSAU Consultative Committee.

Elizabeth's interests include fine needlework and reading. She is also deputy chair of her daughters' school council and an active member of the Glen Iris Uniting Church.
