Commonwealth Scholarships

The Commonwealth Scholarships are being abolished from 2010 for all students except Indigenous Australians. Students currently in receipt of Commonwealth Scholarships will continue to receive payment through the Universities as long as they meet the eligibility requirements of the scholarships.

The Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship will be replaced by the Start Up Scholarship for students receiving income support (Youth Allowance, Abstudy and Austudy), valued at $2254 per annum for the duration of a student’s course and indexed yearly.

The Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship will be replaced by the Relocation Allowance valued at $4000 for the first year for commencing students and then $1000 for each year after, up to a maximum of four years. This is payable to students in receipt of Youth Allowance and Abstudy only.

Both new scholarships will be paid and administered by Centrelink. Further information regarding these scholarships will be available later this year.

The scholarships listed below are only available for Indigenous Australians for 2010.
