Difficult family circumstances

This category is for applicants who have experienced difficult family circumstances on a long-term basis which have significantly disadvantaged their education over an extended period.

Some examples of long-term difficult family circumstances are:

  • abusive living environment including dealing with alcoholism or drug addiction
  • carer responsibilities (ill children, parent, siblings etc.)
  • circumstances affecting the family's financial situation
  • crowded living conditions  
  • death of parent/guardian/relative/close friend/classmate/teacher
  • disruption of education due to contact relocation
  • excessive family responsibilities 
  • homelessness due to severe family discord 
  • recent refugee 
  • medical illness of a close relative or friend
  • natural disaster
  • parents separation or divorce
  • relationship breakdown with significant other
  • supporting a family member or friend
  • victim of crime
  • working in order to support the family financially

Applicants applying under this category must submit supporting documentation.
