People experiencing financial disadvantage

To be eligible under this category, you must be either:

1. in receipt of a current Centrelink payment and/or benefit (eg have a low income health care card), OR
2. experiencing exceptional financial disadvantage, but are not in receipt of any Centrelink payments or benefits.

A Medicare card is not a Centrelink benefit.

 1. Financial disadvantage - receiving Centrelink benefits

You can authorise Monash to electronically obtain details of your Centrelink benefits (Centrelink Confirmation eServices ) by providing your Customer Reference Number (CRN) in the on-line application form. If you provide your CRN, you are not required to supply additional financial documentation.

If you do not provide your CRN, you must provide the following:

• a letter from Centrelink* showing the type and amount of Centrelink benefits and/or payments you receive, and/or
• a copy of your Health Care Card or Government Pension Card*.

 2. Financial disadvantage - not receiving Centrelink benefits

You must complete all required statements in your application explaining your financial circumstances and the effect it has on your educational performance.

You must also provide the following documents:

• an ATO Notice of Financial Assessment for 2009 and copies of three consecutive pay slips*, and
• if you are living with your parent/s or with a partner you must also provide evidence of your parent/s or partner’s income eg. ATO Notice of Financial Assessment for 2009 and copies of three consecutive pay slips*, and 
• if you are being financially supported by your parent/s or by your partner (whether you are living with them or not) they must prepare a statement specifying their yearly or weekly contributions. In the statement they must also provide details of any other dependent children, including their ages and whether or not they are tertiary students living at home.

* All documents must be dated between August and November 2009 and be certified copies.
