Payment of scholarships and bursaries

There are two ways a scholarship or bursary can be paid:

  • direct payment into your bank account
  • direct to your tuition fees*

*this does not include the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF)

Direct payment into your bank account

  • Each year you will be emailed a reminder to update your bank account details in the Web Enrolment System (WES).
  • If you do not provide your bank details by the requested date, your scholarship will be terminated.
  • Most payments are made at the end of April in semester 1 and at the end of September in semester 2.
  • An email will be sent to students once the payment has been made

Direct to your tuition fees

You can choose to have your scholarship paid directly to your tuition fees if you receive one of the following scholarships:

  • Colin and Eleanor Bourke Indigenous Postgraduate Scholarship
  • Engineering Excellence Award
  • Information Technology Industry-Based Learning Entry Scholarship
  • Monash University Faculty Scholarship (e.g. Monash University Education Scholarship)
  • Monash University Jubilee Honours Scholarship
  • Monash University Indigenous Scholarship for Achievement and Equity
  • Monash University International Scholarship for Excellence
  • Monash University Merit Scholarship
  • Monash University Scholarship for Excellence and Equity

When choosing this payment option, it must be selected in WES before 15 March each year and is applicable for the entire year. Once selected, this option will apply to semester 1 and semester 2 units (excludes summer and winter units) and will be paid before 31 March and 31 August. If you change your enrolment after the scholarship payment, it will take two weeks for your fee statement to be updated.

Note: If your tuition fees are lower in value than the scholarship payment due, the balance will be paid to your bank account.

Payment calculation

Total Scholarship Value

When your scholarship is awarded, we calculate your total scholarship value based on the credit points required to complete your degree. This does not include advance standing. Your scholarship will be terminated once you have been paid the total scholarship value.

E.g. For a scholarship valued at $6000 per 48 credit points of study for the minimum number of credit points required to complete the degree, awarded to a person who is about to start a degree which requires 252 credit points to complete the degree (equivalent to 5.25 years full-time study), the total scholarship value would be $31,500 [ (252/48) x 6,000 ]

Payments

Scholarship values calculated by credit point load/EFTSL

Your scholarship payments will be paid according to the units you are enrolled in at the census date.

  • E.g. 1 Your payment would be $2,250 if you were enrolled in 18 credit points at the census date [ (6,000/48) x 18 ]
  • E.g. 2 Your payment would be $3,750 if you were enrolled in 30 credit points at the census date [ (6,000/48) x 30 ]

Other scholarships

  • If your scholarship is paid 'per annum' you will be paid in two equal instalments unless otherwise indicated in your scholarship offer letter or terms and conditions.
  • One-off scholarship and bursary payments will be made in April (for offers made in semester 1) or in September (for offers made in semester 2).
