Monash Bendigo Community Telco Bursary

Bendigo Community Telco is a locally owned company that provides telecommunications services to Bendigo and surrounding regions. Part of its charter is to retain profits generated in the region and reinvest part of them each year into the region and the community, including the delivery of health care and social programs.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be:

  • an Australian citizen, and
  • studying Australian Year 12 or IB in 2008, or
  • completed Australian Year 12 or IB in a previous year and not undertaken any previous study at a tertiary level and applying for a new course through VTAC in 2008 and
  • intending to enrol full-time in the Extended Rural Cohort stream of the MBBS at a Monash campus in Australia, and
  • able to demonstrate financial hardship, and
  • a permanent resident in the Northern Victoria region.

Selection criteria

Awarded on the basis of need to eligible applicants who demonstrate:

  • a permanent home address in Northern Victora as defined by Northern Victorian Regional Medical Education Network Map, and
  • evidence of community leadership and desire to return to a rural setting to practice as a doctor.

Value

$1000 per annum for the duration of the degree.

Retention

Recipients must:

  • maintain a satisfactory academic progress as determined by the Univeristy,
  • meet with Bendigo Community Telco at least once per year,
  • visit a local secondary college of Bendigo Community Telco's choosing, once per year to promote medicine as a career.

Deferability

This scholarship cannot be deferred.

2009 Applications

All eligible applicants who have submitted an online application between 1st August and 31st October 2008, will be automatically assessed. Late applications open 16 December 2008 and close 20 February 2009.
