The Order of Australia Association Foundation Scholarship

The Order of Australia Association Foundation Scholarships have been established to recognise, celebrate and encourage young Australian citizens to realise their potential to be leaders in tomorrows community. The purpose of the scholarships is to assist such promising students who might otherwise have considerable difficulty in proceeding with their studies beyond second year and thus not achieve their potential for the future benefit of Australia.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be:

  • an Australian citizen aged between 18 and 25*, and
  • completed 48 credit points of a substantial 3 or preferably 4 year undergraduate course towards a first degree (or double degree) in Engineering or Science with a focus on Environmental studies at Monash University in 2007 and are currently enrolled in the second year of their degree, and
  • intending to enrol as a full-time student in an undergraduate degree in Engineering or Science with a focus on Environmental studies at Monash University in 2009, and
  • have demonstrated qualities of leadership, initiative and being involved in community affairs, and
  • experiencing financial hardship

* In exceptional circumstances some applicants may be considered up to 27 years of age.

Selection criteria

Applicants will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • academic achievement in their tertiary studies,
  • past and current involvement in community affairs,
  • potential as future leaders in their field of study and in community involvement,
  • benefit to the Australian community in future years through the scholarship award and in their specialist knowledge,
  • need for financial assistance to benefit the completion of their studies, and
  • the ability to gain significantly from the guidance of suitably experienced mentors from The Order of Australia Association

Value

$40,000 to be paid towards tuition fees and the balance to be paid in instalments for the remainder of the degree.

The scholarship awardee will be offered the opportunity of an ongoing mentor relationship with an eminent member of The Order of Australia Association who has professional experience in the awardees chosen career.

Applicants are advised to seek financial advice on the potential impact of the receipt of the scholarship on Centrelink benefits.

Retention

Recipients must maintain full-time enrolment in an Engineering or Science degree with an Environmental focus and satisfactory academic performance as determined by The Order of Australia Association Foundation.

Deferability

This scholarship cannot be deferred.
