Spatial Modeling of a Biological Invasion. This project will apply spatial point process or random field methods to describe a biological invasion (for example, the invasion of fire ants in Brisbane), and where possible, predict the invasion.  

From 11 January 2010 $380 x 6 weeks ($2280 total) Some knowledge of probability and statistics would be helpful. An interest in pattern analysis would also be useful.

 1195 Means and Inequalities. The notions of arithmetic, geometric and harmonic means (of positive real numbers) can be traced back to Pythagoras himself. Some of the greatest mathematicians in history worked on establishing an order
for these means. Many variations of the notion of a mean have since been introduced. This project proposes to investigate
inequalities that exist between the many of these.
